87/256 Digital Event Counters

The 87/256 Digital Event Counter is the most powerful of our large digital counters. Standard features include your choice of 4", 6", 8" and 12" tall digits in a 7-segment formation and features a set of inputs consisting of 2 count inputs (jumper selectable sink or source) plus a reset. Non-volatile count memory makes it possible for the counter to retain the last count in the event of a power loss, without battery backup. DIP switches allow the user to select from one of many popular pre-programmed modes of operation. Advanced modes of operation are possible using our FREE Vorne Display-Pro® 4 Windows® programming utility for the 87 Series units. Totalize inputs from one or two sources, with a unique scale factor for each input. Two data inputs allow independent increment/decrement operation or quadrature-encoded inputs standard. Or you can use one of the data inputs on the counter to toggle to a rate display! Preset and trigger capabilities are also standard. The list below defines some of the operational characteristics that can be programmed by a PC using our Vorne Display-Pro® 4 Windows® programming utility. Contact Vorne for specifics at sales@vorne.com.

• Color Changes - Display changes color in a tricolor display when a process variable such as count reaches a preset value or as the display scrolls through a sequence of display items.
• Virtual Displays - Enables a single unit to display up to 4 process variables on the same display through scrolling or by splitting the display into multiple fields.
• Define Range Restrictions - Define the minimum and maximum allowable display value and take action if a limit is reached such as stop, flash the display value or flash a predefined string.
• Define an Address - An address is defined for networking applications.
• Define Inputs - Define an active level for each individual input and debounce time.
• Preset and trigger - Unit takes special action if a preset value is reached such as activating an optional relay, flashing the display value, reloading a predefined “initial value”, stop, change color for tricolor displays, and/or transmit a predefined string.

77 Series Digital Counters

The 77 Series is the most economical of our large digital counters. Standard units feature 3.3" tall digits in a 7-segment formation and include 2 sets of inputs, one set for common sinking operation and the other for isolated 120/220 VAC input. Each set of inputs includes one count input and one reset input (a second count input is optionally available). A regulated output voltage of 12 VDC is provided for auxiliary use (optional 5VDC replaces 12VDC).

77/256M Digital Event Counters

The Vorne 77/256M Digital Event Counter displays the number of inputs received on a 2 to 6 digit display field. Non-volatile count memory makes it possible for the 77/256M to retain the last count in the event of a power loss, without battery backup. The 77/256M can be equipped with an optional scale factor of 0.0001 to 9999, settable via front panel mounted thumbwheels or internal DIP switches. The displayed value is the product of the scale factor and the total count.

Key Description Choices
256M Model Designator 256M = Digital Event Counter
A Regulated Output Voltage 12 = 12 VDC @ 100 mA (standard)
5 = 5 VDC @ 100 mA (optional)
B Input Type S = Sinking Input (This is the standard input which requires a contact closure to ground or open collector NPN transistor capable of sinking 0.5 mA to advance the count. It is pulled up to a 5 VDC level and has a high/low speed selection jumper to choose a cut-off of 100,000/3000 CPM respectively. It is also TTL compatible.)
AC = AC Input (This is the standard AC input which requires the application of 120 or 220 VAC to the input to advance count at speeds as high as 1200 CPM.)
SRC = Sourcing (This input type is jumper selectable and requires a source voltage up to 30 VDC applied to the input to advance count.)
