The XL400 – A Truly “Smart” Production Display
The all-new XL400 production display utilizes an innovative “bolt-on” design that makes production monitoring as easy as installing a stack light yet provides a tremendous amount of real-time production data to both your plant floor and your network. Production data you choose is displayed on large 4" to 12" ultra-bright LED digits while the complete array of 100+ process variables is pushed over an integrated Ethernet port to the Display-Pro® XL web server. Imagine real-time, right-now plant floor visibility from anywhere in your plant via a simple web browser!
Reduce downtime and recover lost capacity
Improve production efficiency
Easy-to-deploy design is fast to show results
With most large digital displays you get a single displayed variable. With the XL400 production display you get a wealth of real-time production data from just a couple of sensors to help expose lost capacity, get to the root cause of unplanned downtime and much more. Improve plant performance today.
It's simple to install, easy to understand and fast to show results!

Popular Applications
The XL400 production display is an extremely powerful visual display with virtually limitless configurations. Any of the 100+ process variables can be displayed on the digital display. Dedicated and multiple field formats include decimal and colon configurations. Because the XL400 production display is a completely programmable display there are no hard display configurations.
The following represents a brief list of popular applications:
| Focus On | Description |
|---|---|
| Target Count Actual Count Efficiency % |
Based on a three-field configuration (shown above), the Actual Count, Target Count and calculated Efficiency % are displayed simultaneously to help operators produce exactly what is required, when it is required. This display addresses the core concepts of JIT, demand flow and lean manufacturing. |
| Count Rate Down Time |
A straight-forward display that provides a lot of process information. This unit was designed to indicate what has been produced, the rate at which it is currently being produced and if any down time has occurred in the current job or shift. |
| Run Time Down Time Setup Time Standby Time |
Display any or all of the production times that are tracked in the XL400 production display. Use color to show when a changeover has exceeded the allowed amount of time or display run time in green when the process is running and downtime in red when the line is stopped. |
| Pieces to Goal Time to Goal |
Real-time display of Pieces to Goal and/or Time to Goal is a great way to alert work groups of an impending changeover and help with planning. Operators can work toward reducing changeover time by performing external setup based on feedback from the display. For example, display variables can change from green to amber when there is 30 minutes or X pieces to job completion. |
| OEE % Availability % Performance % Quality % |
Show any or all variables associated with Overall Equipment Effectiveness in either their own dedicated field or scroll the values on a single display field. |
Product Description
The XL400 production display is an incredibly flexible power-packed platform that integrates six products for the price of one display:
Visual Display that informs, alerts and motivates
Production Monitor with plug-and-play simplicity
I/O Processor that's programmable and expandable
Communication Hub with Ethernet, RS-232, and RS-485
Program Executioner with point-and-click configuration
Data Warehouse with hundreds of data registers
Visual Display
Ultra-bright 4" to 12" red or tricolor LED numeric digits provide vibrant data output. Outstanding brightness and an exceptionally wide viewing angle ensure crisp clear viewing across the factory floor.
Dynamic control over display fields links real-time events to how data is formatted and displayed. Flash data for immediate attention by operators and supervisory staff. Change color to call out changing status (green at or above standard, amber slightly below standard, and red when well below standard).
For example, automatically flash a data field if the line goes down. Dynamically change color from green to amber to red if efficiency drops below target. Flip a field during breaks to display time remaining in the break. Or flip a field to show count when running and down time when stopped. The possibilities are limitless!
XL400 - Available in 4-12 digit configurations including clock formats!
Integrated Production Monitoring
One of the many innovative features of the XL400 production display is the fully integrated real-time production monitor. Eight built in modules provide out-of-the-box focused data to help you understand and manage your production. Integration couldn't be easier. Add one or two sensors and you get a wealth of information! And it's scalable. Each item you add returns more data.

I/O Processor Features
Every XL400 production display comes standard with six high-speed inputs and one relay output. Expand your I/O with a sixteen input expansion card. Inputs can trigger internal counters, process timers or programs. Programs also let inputs act as “soft buttons” that change the operation of the display based on conditions that you define (e.g. a break on-the-fly button).
Relay output is for annunciation only, and are not designed or intended for control applications.
Three concurrent communication ports provide multiple options for reading and writing data to the XL400 production display:
10/100 Ethernet (for the ultimate in data acquisition)
RS-232 (single point connections to 57,600 bps)
RS-485 (multiple point connections to 115,200 bps)
Program Executioner Features
A powerful set of commands allows you to “customize” your application by connecting triggers to programs. Triggers can be generated from inputs, setpoints, time schedules, com ports, production mode changes, etc. When a trigger is received, the associated program is executed.
Up to 1,000 programs can be created by simply stringing together predefined high-level commands to achieve your desired operation. There are dozens of commands available, including timer and relay control, numeric and string data manipulation, math operations, display screen control, and much more.
Example Applications:
Drive a stack light based on line speed or down time
Create a sixteen input counter
Perform data conversions (e.g. Celsius to Fahrenheit)
Create a maintenance call button with wait timer
Data Warehouse Features
A unified and structured data register architecture supports both numeric and textual data, making it particularly easy to acquire and track critical data. Hundreds of 32-bit signed numeric registers can be loaded with information from your PLCs, ERP system and other sources. This data can be seamlessly reflected back to the Display-Pro® XL web server for plant-wide viewing. The full set of process variables tracked by the XL400 production display are also available for real-time data acquisition through any of the three communication ports.
